A fellow bloggers deployment

I want to introduce you to my friend Patricia from Ground Control To Major Mom.  We've never met, but it's like we have because of the Air Force.  We were both active duty and now she is in the USAF Reserves.  Right now she is deployed to the same base I was in Qatar.  She is away from her husband and two adorable sons.  She is so strong.  I admire her commitment to her service to our country.  I am proud of her and proud to know her.
She recently made a trip to Doha, the capital of Qatar.  She posted pix that I thought you would all enjoy.  Doha is an extremely beautiful city.  The architecture and art throughout the city are stunning.  Click here!

Since I can't find my pix of Doha, thought I'd share a pic of me and my favorite TCN's from the night shift latrine crew.

Mmmm.... soup.....

Lunch today is worth bragging about!
I'm not the best chef in the world.
That's no secret.
So when I make something that's Mmm Mmm Good, I gotta share it!

On The Menu:
Cheesy Loaded Baked Potato Soup

I made this one other time and it didn't turn out nearly as well.
Thought I'd share this simple recipe with you all.
I put a couple recipies together, modified them, and made it my own.
I encourage you to experiment.

Ingredients:
3 Cans diced potatoes
1 1/2 cups water
1 can chicken broth
2 Tablespoons salt (give or take)
2 1/2 cups milk
4 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
3 tablespoons flour
Dash of steak seasoning
Dash of black pepper
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or whatever you like)
1 pack of bacon, fried and chopped
Sour cream

Instructions:
1.) In large pot combone potatoes, water, chicken broth, and salt. Bring to a boil. Continue boiling for a few minutes, stirring often.
2.) Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer 15-20 minutes.
3.) Once potatoes are tender, stir in milk.
4.) In a small bowl, combine melted butter, flour, steak seasoning, and pepper. Then stir into soup.
5.) Divide the bacon - saving enough to top soup when serving. Add remainder to soup.
6.) Increase heat to medium.
7.) Cook until thick and bubbly - stirring frequently.
8.) Remove from heat.
9.) Divide cheese so that you have enough left to top soup when serving. Stir in rest of cheese until melted.
10.) Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
I served mine in bowls topped with shredded cheese, bacon, and a dallop of sour cream.

Green Eggs Without Ham

Saturday Calvin asked for Green Eggs And Ham for lunch.
Interesting choice.
I rented that movie for him the day before.
He insisted that green eggs and ham looked delicious.
Since I didn't have any ham, I made him green eggs (scrambled with cheese).
This totally made Calvin's day.
He got to stir in the green food coloring.

Since Saturday he has talked on and on about his green eggs.

Today I was in the shower.
Calvin came running into the bathroom yelling, "I gotta poop! I gotta poop, Mom!"
He did his business and I continued showering.
A few minutes later Calvin said the funniest thing I've ever heard on a Monday, "Mom, I pooped out my green eggs!!!" He repeated it over and over. :-) I laughed sooo hard!

New Bloggerville Resident

Let's give Bridget at Always An Adventure a GREAT BIG Bloggy Love welcome to Bloggerville!  She made her very 1st post today.  :-)

I've known Bridget for almost ever.  We were besties in 1st grade.  Inseperable.  I remember sitting in Mrs. Shouse's 1st grade classroom when one of us would say, "Laugh" we would both bust out laughing.  It became a regular skit in our class.

I moved in 2nd grade.  Time, distance, circumstances... whatever, our friendship faded.  I never forgot Bridget and she never forgot me.  So, when I was in need of a new beautician, I was very excited to find her at the French Quarter.  I enjoy my visit to the salon every 3 weeks.  We get a chance to catch up, rant, rave, laugh, cry, and talk to someone that really gets the other.

I encourage you all to get to know Bridget through blogging.  She is a remarkable individual.  Click here to meet her!

P.S. Don't you love her bloggy look?  I'm pretty darn proud of it!

Shoes: Some Local Advertising

Us women like new shoes.
We love shoe shopping.
But, more so we love our favorite shoes.
The ones that we've made memories in.
The ones that form to your feet because you've worn them so much.
The ones that you can't imagine ever parting with.

That is until a heel breaks, the sole comes up, or some other shoe tragedy.

I discovered a local hero

McGee Shoe & Boot Sales and Repair

It's located across from Effingham's IGA.
You've probably driven by there a gazillion times.
I'm here to tell you that Mr. Shoe Repair is AMAZING!
He has fixed a few shoes for me including - my FAVORITE pair of black flats that go with everything.  The ones I dress up or dress down.  That are oh so very comfortable and stylish at the same time.
The front of the soles started to separate.
I wanted to cry.
I took them to McGee's.
Within 5 days they were finished.
He saved them!
They're like new!
Better yet - ONLY $6.00!!!

Passing On Some Love

Dawn from Must Love Tots awarded me this prestigious award over a week ago.  I am just now accepting it.  I really am thankful for the award!  Sorry it took me so long!

What does this award mean?
"This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

I am blushing.
I am grateful.
I am passing on the award to:

In His Grip
Jogging In Circles
Let Me Tell Ya Something
Scrapbooking, Soccer, and Combat Boots

Fabulous! It's Fabulous!

I have been given TWO awards. Both the same award. Both from amazing women.

The first came from Tracie @ Coffee With The Crain's.
The second came from my best friend, Dawn @ Must Love Tots.

Ladies, you made my weekend. Thank-you. (((hugs))) to both of you!

The rule of the award is to list 5 things I am addicted to.
Here goes!

1.) Coach.
I LOVE COACH! I have a few - that I treat like priceless jewels. These are my prizes. I don't buy a lot of handbags (atleast not in comparison to my mother). So, I save up and buy one on special occasions.

2.) Calvin.
I am obsessed with my son. Seriously. As if you all didn't already know! Haven't you seen the thousands of pictures??? I'm crazy about him! He's the sunshine on my cloudy days. He knows how to put a smile on my face. And I am obsessed with showering him with love.

3.) Shoes.
I love, Love, LOVE shoes! Shoes are the accessory that completes the look. They can make a drab outfit fabulous! I don't have nearly as many shoes as I'd like. But what woman does??? I'm sure Chris would disagree with me. He thinks I have too many shoes. No such thing as too many shoes! I love heels and flats and boots and casual shoes and flip flops. I love them all. Due to my always running around lifestyle I rarely wear heels. I wear lots of flats. Dawn has taught me lots of fashion in the flats area! She's got the mother load of flats!

4.) Lip gloss
I am not a lipstick wearing kind of girl. Never really have been. On rare occasions I paint some on. But, I do wear lip gloss. So fun. So casual. But so flirty and chic. My favorite and must have in my purse is Lancome Juicy Tubes. I got addicted to these when I was deployed in 2003-2004. My favorite color is Spring Fling. But, good-luck finding it often at your local department store... Macy's and Elder Beerman are always out!

5.) Hello. My name is Christina and I am addicted to blogging.
Blogging is so therapeutic for me. I get to rant and rave about bad days, mean people, and daily annoyances. BUT, I also get to meet new friends online. The kind of friends that are there for me even though we've never met. They get me. I have so much in common with so many of the people I blog with. Thank-you for always being there for me. For laughing with me. And for lending a virtual shoulder when I needed to cry.

--------------------------------------------------------

Now, I have to pass this award on. Since I got it twice... I guess I need to pick TWO blogs to pass it onto.

* Wendy @ Every Mountain You Climb Are Memories You Treasure. She is my sister in law - and so much more. What started out as enemies has turned into a friendship that I treasure. She is an inspiration. Thank-you for being you.

* Sarah @ Sarah B and Family. I haven't known Sarah very long. Infact, we've never met. And yet I feel a closeness to her. She types from the heart and expresses her true feelings. I truly enjoy her blog. Check it out!

Mama Kat's Weekly Writing Assignment

Mama Kat's at it again with her quirky writing assignments. I've been MIA from her Writers Workshop for a couple weeks. I suspect I'll spend a few afternoons in detention!

Visit Mama Kat for your writing assignment!

This week's prompts:
1.) Describe your significant other's most attractive quality to you (on the inside).
2.) Tell about a time you stole something.
3.) Choose a poem you like. Take the last line and use it as the 1st line in your own poem.
4.) Write about a scary encounter with one of your old professors.

I am chosing #1 this week.
Time to give SSH (super studly husband) some credit.

Chris's most attractive personality trait has to be his patience. I can just see some of his family members rolling their eyes right now. And justly so. He may not always seem like the most patient person in the world. But, to me he is.

I am me. I am not perfect. He married me inspite of my flaws. He knows I'm a little crazy. I battle depression, eating disorders, and being bipolar. He still loves me. This last Summer when I lost my Dad, he was there with me... every second that I would allow. And when I pushed away from him, he waited patiently with open arms to catch me when I fell.

I can be irrational. He knows this. And he also knows that if he's patient I will come around to a more rational way of looking at something. He doesn't argue when I'm irrational because he knows it won't help, that I need to rant and rave for awhile before I come full circle.

Even recently when I have been so angry with God for taking my Dad, and have not wanted to go to church regularly because God and I haven't been on speaking terms (even though I know God will be there and has been there every step of the way), Chris has not pushed me to go. He gives me the opportunities but allows me to make my own choice. He knows I have not left the church forever and that my faith is still there.

I am very fortunate to have Chris as my husband. And what perfect timing for this assignment because our 1 year anniversary is coming up February 2nd.

"Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?"

I'm a little OCD or something quirky.  Here goes.  I get panicky at the slightest, oddest things.  I get panicky if all of the wash cloths aren't folded and stacked exactly the same.  That's just one example.  I'm weird.  I know.

So today I had a near panic attack.

First, I hate pencils.  I am a pen user.  It gives me chills to hear the squeeky sound of a pencil touching paper.  Makes the hair on my neck stand up and every muscle in my body tense.

Today in Sociology I was surrounded by pencil users!!!  I wanted to scream!  I thought everyone used pens.  I looked around the room searching for a new seat for next class because I couldn't handle it.  I saw only 1 seat that wasn't boxed in by pencil users.

I barely got through the class.  I was about to freak out!  And if the pencils weren't bad enough the girl sitting next to me seriously stunk.  I mean... bad.  She started moving around in her seat and then took her coat off which sent a big breeze of bad air my way.  Oh.. gag me.

The pencils, the smell, the material I was absorbing from the instructor, and taking notes was a bit overwhelming for me today.  Like not overwhelming like I couldn't understand the material... overwhelming like I wanted to run around the room stealing every pencil yelling things like, "Pens Rule!" and dropping a wash cloth (perfectly folded) and some deoderant by stinky.  I had to find a way to focus, drown out the screeching pencils, and overcome the odor.

To keep my mind off things I started singing Smelly Cat in my head.  Picturing Phoebe sing Smelly Cat always makes me smile.  :-)  Oh, and I put my lotion smelling hands casually on my face for a better scent.  :-)

"Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat,

What are they feeding you?

Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat

It's not your fault"

Spring semester started out with a smile.

Spazzing

Back/neck/butt cheek spasms are back.
Yes, back.
Because they were gone.
Gone while we were in Florida.
Gone even in the long car ride there and back.
Gone while we walked and walked through the Disney parks.
Gone.
We have been back a couple weeks.
Seems like every day they get worse.
Chris has been a massage angel.
He has been so patient and willing to help.
Thank-you, honey.
I love you.
Even little Calvin has been offering to rub my back.
He knows how to use his fist to rub really hard.
I love him.
He's so sweet.
I'm truly blessed with Chris and Calvin.

I want to go on vacation.
Is your blog giving a vacation giveaway???
If so, I want to enter!
I want to go where I don't hurt.

Is anyone giving away a massage???
I'll take that, too!

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday!

Okay,
I wanted to post a happy birthday post for Dawn.
But, I just can't muster up the cheer.
She's down.
So I'm down.

She's dealing with some potential devestating news about her mom's cancer.
She is heartbroken.
She is sad.
And she is angry.

All justified feelings.
I wish there was something I could do for her.
Unfortunately I can't cure cancer.
All I can do is offer hugs and  prayers.

Please take some time to visit Dawn at Must Love Tots.
She will love Happy Birthday comments and lots of hugs.

Thank-you.

"99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall..."

Today is my brother Jake's 21st birthday!!!
He can drink, now.... legally at least!  ;-)

I can't believe he's 21.  Seems like just yesterday Mom brought him home from the hospital.  Like just yesterday he was still in diapers.  Like just yesterday I was his heroic sister that he looked up to.  He's growing up.  He's a father... and a pretty darn good one at that.  He has a job he can be proud of.  And, he's growing into a man that understands the balance between responsibility and fun.

I am very proud of Jake.  I may not tell him nearly enough, but he really does make me proud - in his own little ways.  :-)

I'm looking forward to meeting up with Jake at 10:00 this morning for some drinks.  Hey, it's his 21st birthday!  It only happens once in a lifetime!  Have to live it up and start early!  Feel free to give me a call and meet up with us for drinks or leave a virtual shot of your choice here!  :-)

A Dinner Worth Sharing

I'm eating dinner.
I know, it's late.
Oh well.
Chris and Calvin ate earlier.
Anyway... it is so delicious that I have to share with you:

Ingredients:
Vlasic Baby Kosher Dills
Lays Cheddar and Sour Cream potato chips

Take a bite of a pickle and potato chip at the same time. Chew. Enjoy.

Chris insists this isn't healthy. I pointed out that at least I'm eating my veggies! :-)

What did you have for dinner?

VMDV Snippet: It's A Small World

On Christmas day we sat on a sidewalk in Disney's Magic Kingdom waiting for the Christmas parade to begin. Of course to get a good seat for a Disney parade on Christmas, you have to claim your piece of sidewalk at least 45 minutes early!

A young family from Hungary with two young girls, one about Calvin's age sat next to us. Calvin and the girls shared their snacks of Pringles and M&M's while they waited. It didn't matter where they were from or any differences in cultures. They were instant friends.

During the parade, Chris met a man from Bloomington, Illinois. Not too far from us. Small world. The man said the most profound thing I've heard in years. I can't quote it. But, basically this: "If all the world was at/like Disney there would be no war, no violence, no borders. Everyone would get along."

The man had a good point. Disney World is a destination for people around the world to come together for the magic that is Disney. The smiles that Mickey and the Disney gang bring to the faces of the young and the old. You hear dozens of different languages throughout the parks.

There are nice people like our Hungarian friends at the parade that helped Calvin get to the front of the crowd to watch with their daughters. There were sweet people everywhere. I'm sure there were some bad apples. In fact, there was one in particular, but she'll get her own VMDV Snippet later.

Anyway, my point is this: If the world gets along so merrily at Walt Disney World, why can't the rest of the world get their act together?

Thoughts?

Queen of the Scrabble!

Chris and I played Scrabble last night.
We are very competitive people.
As usual... I won!
(When will he give up?)
Final score:
Me: 241
Chris: 168

Chris was a sore loser.

I was a gloating winner.

I know some of you more professional Scrabblers won't think 241 is very good... but in this house... it's good enough to win!

I am the champion!

VMDV: The Best Pix!

The man in the brown suit delivered our DISNEY PHOTOPASS cd today!!! YAY!!!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip. For the rest go to www.dropshots.com/cgoeckner. I took almost 1000 pix on vacation but narrowed them down to far less to post online. :-) So, enjoy!

A Very Special Upcoming Wedding

My Mom Is Getting Married!

Mom and Clay announced the big news last night at TGI Fridays where a few of us were having dinner. My initial reaction was probably confusion because I couldn't tell if they were joking or not. But, once I found out this is the real deal, I was/am very excited for the couple.

Mom and Clay were high school sweethearts. Things happened, my Mom and Dad made me and got married. Clay married someone, also. When my parents were divorced a couple years later, Clay was starting a family with his wife. Years passed and they always remained friends, which was inevitable because Clay was like a 3rd son to my Grandfather.

In 2004, the setting was finally right for the couple to reunite. And the rest is history. :-)

July 25th is the big day! Mom and Clay want to have a small, intimate ceremony at their house with guests of only their children. It should be a very special day.

CONGRATULATIONS, Mom and Clay! Wishing you many, many, many years of happiness, love, and joy!

VMDV Snippet: Disney Photopass

VMDV Snippet.

Disney offers a photo pass.
It's pretty cool.
All of the cool places that you want family pix taken, they do it for you w/ their professional cameras.
Then, they scan your card and post them on a website for you.
Very handy!
Because of this, we have some amazing pix of us at Disney.
Some are priceless.
We even got to edit the pictures with cool Disney add-ons like character signatures!
We knew they would come with a steep cost.
Just didn't know it would be sooo much.
Like $14.95 for 2 4x6 prints.
"YIKES" is an understatement.
Since we loved so many of the pix, we opted to purchase the photo cd with a copyright release to be able to print at our own convenience at a cheaper store.
The CD isn't cheap.
Not at all.
But, I still say it is worth it if you go to Disney with a 3 year old for the 1st time and capture every moment of him and his favorite Disney characters.
My CD arrives tomorrow.
I will have lots'o pix to post this weekend!
