A Very Merry Christmas

I am happy to report that we had a fabulous Christmas! We mostly enjoyed being able to visit with family that we don't normally get to see. I can definitely say that Calvin made it to Santa's good list and got everything on his list. Not only did Santa spoil him but also the whole family did. He got everything from farm toys to a remote control bobble head car to books to a V.Smile video game system. Chris got me diamond earrings! :-) Yay for me! He spoils me. We both got great gifts from everyone from a Dyson to a video camera to a coffee grinder/maker to gift certificates to a camera. We love all of our presents!
Calvin's favorite gift: A Stick Horse.
He loves this horse. Everyone asked what his name was. He didn't have one. So, this morning we named him Petie. Cute name - but when he says Petie, it sounds more like Peepee!!! Too Funny!

Pick up line

Wednesday Calvin and I were at a jewelry store buying gifts from my brothers to their girlfriends. I was getting ready to pay when one of the sales ladies started to talk to Calvin. No kidding, he set back in his pimp stroller, kind of stuck out his chest like he was hot and said, "I like beer." Then he proceeded to tell her that he likes horse beer (Budweiser) and asked, "Do you want a beer?" OKAY... I have no idea where he learned how to pick up chicks!!! He's 2!!!

Incase you were wondering...

Calvin is doing so awesome with potty training. I got him his own potty chair, made him a chart w/ stickers to track each time he goes, and only let him wear big boy underwear - no pull-ups. I am so proud of him.
He is so proud of himself. He'll look at the chart hanging on the bathroom door and say, "See, Mom! See! I big boy!" Then, it usually leads to him telling me that Santa will bring him presents, now.

ALSO... BIG NEWS... Lance text messaged me today to let me know that him and Crystal are ENGAGED!!! I couldn't be happier for the two of them! They are both super fabulous people that will have a wonderful life together and beautiful babies! CONGRATS!!! To Joz, you are one lucky girl to get Lance as a step-dad. He is pretty special.

Cookies, Pretzels, and fudge, Oh My!

Before I start - YES, Dawn that said fudge! I have some set aside just for you!!! We love you that much!!!
3 trips to Schnucks and 8 hours in the kitchen and we were finished with our Christmas candy masterpieces.
Tiffany and I were up last night until like 3:00 A.M. So, we didn't wake-up until 10:00 this morning which was a bit later than we planned on since we had so much baking to do. (Yeah - it was nice sleeping in!) Sorry to the people that have jobs to go to at 0800! ;-)
We are pretty proud of ourselves for what we all accomplished:

1.) Fudge in 3 flavors: milk chocolate, white chocolate, and a mix of white chocolate and mint chocolate. Yes - all 3 are scrumptuous. The amazing part is that neither of us had EVER made fudge.
2.) Tree shaped sugar cookies w/ green icing and cute sprinkles. 3 batches!
3.) Puppy chow mix - 8 sandwich bags full.
4.) Milk chocolate and white chocolate pretzels - some w/ sprinkles and some drizzled in caramel or mint chocolate.
5.) Cinnamon rock candy - first time at this, too. Turned out great!
6.) My delectable, fluffy, always so soft chocolate chip cookies.
7.) White chocolate dipped pretzel rods decorated with sprinkles, peppermint sprinkles, caramel, and mint chocolate.
8.) Milk chocolate, white chocolate, and mint chocolate covered oreos - some drizzled with other chocolate and caramel flavors.
You're probably asking yourself, "Where did they put all of this candy??? Christina's condo isn't that big!" Well, let me tell you... we were resourceful. There were candy and cookies in every room but the bathroom including the coffee table, my dresser, my bed, the couch, and shelves in Calvin's room!!!
Tiff and I had a great time and decided this has to be an anual event. :-) Just think Patterson... If I still worked there you'd all be getting goodies tomorrow! Have a Merry Christmas!

Late night shopping...

Tiffany came up to Champaign tonight to finish up some Christmas shopping and make Christmas candy and cookies all day tomorrow. We had an interesting night... Things to note...
1.) Nobody had size 81/2 flats for Tiffany's brother Chris's girlfriend (we were on a mission to buy her fab shoes from him.)
1.2) We found gorgeous Coach flats... ONLY $49.99!!! Thought we found the deal of a lifetime! Sorry, size 11 only!
2.) Tiffany wanted to buy shoes shoes shoes!
3.) Hello, Ann Taylor Loft, we had 2 minutes to shop. The overly-fake sales lady practically met us at the door to escort us out because they were closing. HELLO... it was 9:58!!! We had 2 minutes! We are quick shoppers!!! How rude!
4.) We rolled by Shoe Carnival to see if they were open. Ummm... the employees were all standing outside smoking and looked at us like we were nuts when we asked if they were open. Hello - it was only like 10:08 p.m. It's the holiday season - we didn't know.
5.) Target. We love Target. Walked the store. Only thing we got... a new pair of striking red flats for Tiffany.
6.) We decided that we didn't have enough stuff to make Christmas candy and cookies tomorrow. So, we tackled Wal-Mart.
6.1) Stockboys and girls... it's only 10:25 p.m! Why are you taking up all the aisles???
6.2) How many oz's of chocolate chips = a cup??? Picture us trying to figure this out!
6.2.1) I think we have plenty: semi-sweet, milk chocolate, caramel, white chocolate, and mint baking chips!
6.3) We spent 1.5hrs in Wal-Mart!!!
7.) On our way back to my place... while at a stop light... we witnessed a Chinese firedrill in front of us! Seriously, they got out of their SUV, ran around the car, and got back in. We were cracking up laughing so hard!
8.) Have you ever heard Tiffany say, "I don't like dip." She has said this to me several times and I insist that everyone likes dip for chips. So, we're driving home past Buffalo Wild Wings and she says, "Maybe we can get some chips and dip at BW3's". Hello??? DIP!!! I totally called her out on it and for some silly reason this resulted in hysterical laughter!
9.) We got home, unpacked the car, went over our itinerary for baking tomorrow, and I made us pigs in a blanket - cheese style! yummy!
10.) Incase you were wondering, she didn't get 1 gift bought for anyone!!! Maybe tomorrow. :-)

Merry Christmas!

To My more liberal Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

To My more conservative Friends:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Amy, thanks for the e-mail! I love it!

Potty Training

So... we started potty training Calvin in May... It's December... still not done. Any suggestions??? I bought him a miniature Elmo toilet seat that goes on the big potty. I thought he'd love it. I've tried bribing him with M&M's, yelling, time-out, putting cheerios in the toilet for him to aim at, and other rewards. But, he just didn't seem to care. In fact, he has regressed over the past two months. He used to always go #2 on the toilet... now he'd rather go and hide. Grrr...
So, today my patience was wearing low. I have been telling him for a month that Santa won't come unless he goes potty like a big boy. He is excited about Santa - so this works when he thinks about it - but he's two... he thinks about a million different things a minute. Anyway, he pooped his pants today. I was upset because I have been working with him so much lately. At one point, I had him in tears. I told him I was mad at him. That broke his heart. I wanted to cry. I immediately decided that I had to do something. Getting mad wasn't getting him potty trained any faster. I decided that while I was thinking up a plan I was taking away his pull-ups and he'd have to wear big boy underwear. I religiously took him the the bathroom the rest of the day.
I did some research online tonight. Got a great idea to make a chart and use stickers to track his daily and weekly progress. I even made him a travelling chart so he will have something to take with him to his dad's. Which will also motivate Aaron to stay on top of it, too. So, that's my plan for now.
ANYONE have ANY other ideas??? Should I try using a normal potty chair? I'll try anything. HHHEEELLLLPPPP!!!!

It snowed. It snowed a lot. So, this morning we headed out for some snow-time fun! Calvin had a great time! He is particularly good at throwing snow at me!

Finals are over!!! Woohoo! I'm so relieved! To all other college students out there: ENJOY Christmas break!!! Spring semester will be here before we know it!

Ummm... where are the cookie cutters?

Since we just moved to a new town, I decided I needed to venture off... away... from Wal-Mart... and try somewhere new. So, I went to Meijer. I seriously spent 2 hours there because I was lost. I needed to major grocery shop and get all the stuff for Christmas candy. I walked that store time and time again trying to find the christmas tree cookie cutters - or any Christmas cookie cutters... but I couldn't find any. I asked 2 people that worked there and they didn't know, either. Grrr... So if that wasn't bad enough, I had one of those carts that steers to the right all the time. I could barely drive that thing! I'm going to need a serious massage tonight! So, I decided that Wal-Mart is like 5 minutes from our house... I'll go there for the cookie cutter! On a positive note, Meijer had cereal on sale: Buy 4 boxes of General Mills brand cereal and get 2 FREE! :-)

Capri Sun Daiquiri?

I don't drink much. Okay, let me rephrase that... I don't drink often, but when I do... man do I drink! Doughy can attest to that! Chris and I became a thing on one of those crazy nights! Man was I drunk! ANYWAY, it doesn't happen very often - maybe twice a year when I get really drunk. But, Chris enjoys a beer or two in the evening and he'd like me to have a drink w/ him or w/ dinner. Well, tonight it hit me. I love love love Capri Sun drinks. I don't normally drink much juice - but those cool opaque pouches make it seem so fun and so un-juice like. So, what if I could get a strawberry daiquiri, Redbull and vodka, Long Island Iced Tea, or any of my other favorite alcoholic beverages in a cool capri sun pouch??? Would I turn into a regular drinker? Hmmm... something to think about. Someone could easily market this great idea! It would be a hit!

Playdate With Daelyn

After 2 months of no playdates, Calvin and Daelyn finally got together last night. Daelyn was so excited to see him that she had her mom meet us at the car in the freezing cold! Calvin is a shy little boy - at least at first. So, they had their differences until... Ice Age. Man, those 2 love that movie and they both giggled... not laughed... giggled while they watched. It was so cute. :-) We can't wait to see the Dunston clan again soon!
BTW, Dawn you have to get a pic of Lil Weldon and his mohawk on your blogspot! It was sooo stinkn' cute!

Calvin's New School

Calvin has a new school!
As soon as we walked into Chesterbrook Academy, Calvin and I both knew this was going to be it! It is different than other daycares we have seen. The teachers were all smiling and cheerful. It's like they really enjoyed their jobs. Everyone seemed excited to see Calvin and eager to learn more about him. In each classroom, the students were busy with arts and crafts or structured learning groups. It was clear that the school took learning seriously. Also, they were great about working around my class schedule to give me the best tuition rate possible.
It's only a few minutes away from our house, located in U of I's Research Park!
Anyway, as if my opinion of the school wasn't good enough... Calvin LOVED it! He was a little shy around the other kids, but he seemed so comfortable there. We are really excited! Check out their website:

Oh dear Summer...

It's cold outside. I didn't leave the apartment all day. I heard it was freezing. I miss the summer. I miss swimming, parks, shorts, boating, and fishing. Somehow, I even miss A.C.! This picture reminds me of warmer days. BTW, this pic was taken on our first day of fishing this year at our old house... I outfished Chris by a lot!!! :-)

ADD Hanger Disorder???

Could it be possible that I have Attention Deficit Disorder in the "clothes hanger" department??? :-) This is the thing, everytime I go to Wal-Mart unaccompanied by Chris, I buy at least one-10 pack of clothes hangers. I didn't realize I had so many until we moved. There's seriously something wrong w/ me... I have dozens upon dozens of extra hangers!!! Although ADD is indeed a very serious disorder, I did find humor in my excessive hanger collection.
