2 Crazy Women on a House Hunt...

Yesterday, Tiffany and I went to Champaign to look at different rental properties for me, Chris, and Calvin to move into in December. I'd say all in all the day was good... even though we didn't find me a new home! I think Chris might go back one evening to look at a place and then again maybe on Saturday to look at more places. Hobby Lobby called while we were up there - the rest of the wedding flowers came in - so now I should have all the flowers!!! :-)
Thank-you, Tiffany. I couldn't have tackled the CU rental showings - navigation - dead mouse - 1978 wallpaper - or Hobby Lobby with out you! I hope you decide to move, too!!!
Today I woke-up sicker than I felt yesterday. I made the decision to go to school and work regardless of my achey body. Then, Calvin woke-up with the same look on his face as how I felt. I took our temps... yeah, we went back to bed until almost 9:30! I think he's feeling tons better. I'm feeling a little better. I am hopeful that I will be better by tomorrow. BIG day tomorrow... more to come on that after the BIG day. I just can't be sick tomorrow... just can't. I won't be sick. Not me. Not Calvin. Tommorow will be a GREAT day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRIS!

Monday was Chris's 26th birthday. He said he didn't need to turn 26 - because 25 was the perfect age. We'll see what happens when he turns 30!!! ;-) We kicked off his birthday weekend by going out for dinner and drinks Friday. Then, Sunday Mom had a big breakfast to celebrate his birthday and then she and Poppy watched Calvin so we could go to the driving range. That afternoon I made him a caramel apple pie - he said it was delicious. Then, Monday morning before leaving for school Calvin and I gave Chris his present (Band of Brothers) and took him out for dinner that night at T.G.I. Fridays. I think he had a good birthday. :-)

Happy birthday, dear Chris. Happy birthday to you!

Cooper and Calvin

Sunday mom had brunch to celebrate Chris's 26th birthday. It was delicious. Lil' Cooper was there. We hadn't seen him in 2 weeks!!! That's so long! He is getting bigger every day! Him and his mommy went back to Indy w/ Jake for the week. We hope to see Cooper again soon. Calvin still calls him Pooper and says that he poops a lot... so true... so true...

The GREAT Pumpkin Patch

A couple weeks ago we visited The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur. Calvin loved it! It is so awesome - I recommend it to everyone!!! The stinkn' batteries in my camera went dead while we were there so I missed a lot of great photo ops. Grr... BUT - we still had a good time! Thank-you to Tiffany for riding up there w/ us Saturday night just to find out it was closed. Sorry you missed out on Sunday!

Froggy PJ's

The cold weather warranted cold weather pj's. Calvin's new jammies - with frogs... he loves them! They're like miniature adult pajamas. He has another pair that are blue with puppies. They were too adorable to pass up - especially at 50 and 60% off at Sears and Elder Beerman's. :-)

Children's Waiting Room Etiquette

Did I miss a parenting memo that states that while in the waiting room at the doctor's office it is acceptable for children to misbehave and go through other people's purses?
The Scenerio:
Yesterday, I was waiting for my mother in the gynecologist waiting room. Shortly after she was called to the room a couple and their young daughter arrived. Cute little girl. Immediately the little girl started running around the room and playing quite loudly. I can understand this - she was under 2 and was bored. I smiled at her and even said a few nice words about her shirt and hair - girly stuff. Not long later, while running and playing near me she saw my purse and began to root through it. I looked up at her father - made eye contact with him - as to ask him kindly to have his daughter get out of my new Michael Kors handbag - it was my purse and that's private. He did nothing. I glanced at the mother - she was reading and not paying any attention. I'm not one to normally say something to someone else's kids but this was wrong - the parents should have stopped her. So, I very nicely asked the young girl to get out of my purse and directed her towards some magazines. She was happy to look at the magazines. Problem solved. Then, the father disgruntedly states that he can't believe that the doctor's office doesn't provide any toys for children. It's like he was blame shifting... it wasn't his or his daughter's fault that she was digging through my purse... it was the doctor's because they should entertain children while they wait. Hmmm... interesting theory Mr. Father of pink shirted pretty girl. I wasn't in the least bit angry with the young girl. She didn't know better and kids are kids. But, after her dad's comment I was quickly irritated and ready to leave.
This is what I have to say: As parents our lives revolve around our children. But, we need to face the fact that everyone else's world does not do the same. Therefore, packing small snacks and a couple little toys will help to entertain your children.

Jake

Rebekah left a comment saying that Jake is hot. She's like that. She tells me I'm hot. You gotta love her. I started to post a comment in reply to her comment but decided it deserved its own post.
Rebekah, I'll tell you what Jake would tell you... "You're hot, but there's a line and you need to find your place in it. You'll get your turn." He's cocky like that. ;-)

Cupcakes

Calvin and I made cupcakes today. We had a great time decorating them. He had to call his Mimi to tell her how he had to "shake shake shake the sprinkles." :-)
I hope I remember to take cupcakes to work tomorrow... because let's face it I'm getting married in less than 4 months so I can't eat much!

Alicia and Cole

I'd like to announce that Chris's sister,
Alicia and Cole Koester are engaged!
He proposed last night - very romantic story.
I can't wait to see them when they're home for Thanksgiving.
CONGRATULATIONS to the newly engaged couple!

Baby Cooper

Last night Calvin and I got the chance to babysit baby Cooper all night. What a precious baby. He obviously loves his cousin, Calvin because when he'd hear Calvin's voice he'd get a big smile on his face. Calvin adored Cooper and even read him some books. I have to admit that I had forgotten what it was like to have a two week old newborn around... dirty diapers and late night feedings. But, it all was worth it to watch him smile when he was dreaming sweet dreams of puppy dogs. We can't wait to watch Cooper again.

R.I.P. Colossel Charlie , Fat Frank, Big Bertha and their families.

I'm turning myself in. I am guilty of a mass murder of spiders on my front porch at approximately 1:15 p.m. today. Weldon, this one's for you!
I knew there was a spider problem on my front porch - Weldon made sure I knew last time he was here as he almost ran away from my house! But somehow I still couldn't let myself face it... until last night. Tiffany was leaving, it was about 10:30 p.m. and as the screed door closed behind her, I met Big Bertha... a very large, brown, hairy spider. I remained calm for Tiffany's sake. When she got a safe distance away from Big Bertha, I told her and she agreed that Big Bertha was huge, hairy, and scary. So, I decided right then and there to plot the death of Big Bertha and her gang of spiders.
After Calvin went down for his nap today, I packed up some heavy duty bug/spider spray, a broom, and the water hose and headed outside in my rainboots. Maybe I was a little dramatic with the rainboots, but you can't be too careful or too prepared when dealing with spiders this size. Besides, I don't often get the chance to wear them and they're cute - they're plaid. ANYWAY... back to the Big Bertha Gang...
I first rinsed off the front of the house including the windows and porch with water as best as I could. Then, I got out the bug spray and went face to face with the spiders. First, I tackled Colossel Charlie... he was colossel, as his name says, black, and had a big yellow spot on him. He was hanging from the window. He was no match for my stellar bug spray shooting skills. You could say he was a "sitting duck". Next, I took on Fat Frank, who I originally thought was Big Bertha. It didn't take much to kill Fat Frank - he was weak. I had killed a dozen or so other smaller smiles during this time. I thought I was finished and started to retreat from the battle site when up from the doormat crawled Big Bertha. She was the biggest, baddest spider I'd ever seen (excluding the camel spiders in the middle east - there's no comparison!) It was a showdown like in the old West. She tried to draw her gun, but she was too slow for my sharp shooter bug spray skills. She wasn't easy to kill, but after five minutes or so she finally died. I swept all the dead spiders off the front porch, rinsed it off with the water hose, and then for precautionary reasons sprayed more bug spray. I am a spider murderer. I am guilty.
In my defense, I could have stomped the life out of these spiders with my glamorous green and brown plaid rainboots. But, that seemed too inhumane. Or, maybe I'm just a wimp and would freak out if I had to step on a spider.
In conclusion, the war between me and Big Bertha's Gang is over. If what's left of her gang shows back up at my doorstep I will take them out, too. Weldon and everyone else, you are safe to return to my house.

little red sticker

A couple weeks ago I made cookies for a bakesale... I had little red stickers out so I could price the packages of cookies. Of course Calvin wanted a sticker. I gave him one. How is it that two weeks later that little red sticker keeps popping up? I'm not sure if he hides it somewhere (no - it's not in his cabinet bc I've looked there). But, every couple days he seems to pull it out of thin air and play with it. Usually he puts it on his legs or arms. However, this morning in the shower it's like he discovered his nipples. So, picture him walking around topless with a red sticker over his right nipple. It was a nice chuckle!

My son thinks I'm beautiful

So Calvin is a complete sweetheart... when he sees pictures of pretty women (like Jessica Alba, Katie Holmes, Mischa Barton, or any Victoria's Secret model) in magazines or on t.v. he'll point and call her mom. Yes, that means he thinks I'm as gorgeous as those multi-millionaire air-brushed women! That makes me feel so good!
This morning while I was putting on my make-up he told me I was pretty.
