New Hair cut

Calvin, Bridget, and I all survived the hair cut!!!
Thank God for Scooby Doo suckers!
We decided to cut his hair short so we won't have to do this again for awhile.

Why does hair have to grow?!?

It hit me today like a ton of bricks... Calvin gets is 2 year pictures taken next week... that means he will have to get his hair cut before then! Any volunteers to take him to his hair appointment??? I will pay you!
Actually... I thought I might let his good ole dad take on this challenging task! I mean... he was infantry in Iraq... surely he can handle taking a 1 year old to get his hair cut!!! I think it would make for some good father/son time! hehehe... ;-) We'll see what Aaron says. He's heard the horror stories not just from me... but from people at the salon... so I doubt he's gonna want to do it, either. On top of us not wanting to take him to get his hair cut, and knowing that he doesn't want to get it cut, I have tried to call my salon 4 times today and no answer... okay so I know they're probably closed today... but what if they just don't want to cut his hair - because it is so dramatic?!? LOL- I know better. Anyway, I will try to call Bridgett again tomorrow...

Calvin's Mohawk

Taking Calvin to get his hair cut rates somewhere between an IRS audit and a root canal. I'm not joking! The poor boy cries the entire time and has been known to throw a tantrum in effort of getting out of the hair cut. It's not just bad for me and him... but poor Bridgett... I mean, it breaks her heart to cut his hair because of all of the tears. I love when his hair is short and clean cut... but it's just not worth it. He had a hair appointment a few weeks ago but I cancelled it because I didn't want to put us all through the tramatizing event. To be honest, I think Bridgett was relieved. So, it's been probably over two months since his last hair cut and it's getting long - but not long enough to pull off the adorable surfer look. So, I thought I'd try out a new look for him. What do you think??? Do you like his mohawk? I'm sure this won't be his new everyday look - but it was cute for the evening. :-)

Women In Red

Anyone that knows me very well knows that I am not a good saver. I love love love to shop! I justify this by only buying things when it's a good sale or on clearance. But, that's not a good excuse. I never use credit cards so I have also always felt like I was living within my means if I could afford to buy these things. My shopping has gotten worse since I had Calvin. I buy stuff for him all the time. It's ridiculous. Although I've been living within my means, I haven't done much saving. It's something I've known that I've needed to do but just haven't. Today, I saw on an ad about Women in Red. It's a message board where you can anonamously post your current savings and retirement numbers and your goals. Other people on the message board will be watching your numbers so it's inspiration to save more money. I'm pretty competitive... just ask Chris. So, I think that publically announcing how much money I'm saving will help me to save more. There are also some good ideas for saving more money. A good one I saw today was: Save all of your $5 bills. I think I might try that!!! Check out this link if you're interested in being a Woman in Red:

Boot Camp

Today at precisely 2:33 p.m. I made my daily trek to the vending machine. Call it hunger, bordem, or whatever but every day around this time I get hungry! I patiently waited my turn at the vending machine... the evil terrorist that forces me to eat junk food daily! I slowly looked the rows over from top to bottom. Then, there it was: last shelf; second from the right... my reminder of what I call Summer Camp 2000... a BIG Texas Cinnamon Roll. I know this normally overlooked but perfectly delictable pastry might not mean much to you, but it sure does to me. Here's my story:

I spent Summer 2000 at Lackland Air Force Base in boiling San Antonio, Texas. Some people called it Boot Camp... I remember it much more like Summer Camp! It was the best summer ever. I spent my days running, marching, doing sit-ups & push-ups, trying to stay awake in the classroom, and folding clothes - all the while with my fun-loving flight and our brother flight. I was also the Chow Runner which gave me the privilege of announcing to the T.I.'s (Training Instructors - I think the Army calls these people Drill Sergeants) when we had arrived for meals at the chow hall. I was the proudest Chow Runner, ever. They even let me train the new chow runners so they could be as good as me! My flight proved day in and day out that we were second to none. We even got the coveted award of "honor flight" - that's Honor Flight 494 to you! Along with our success and good behavior came lots of "patio time". This was when were were allowed to go to a small enclosed area with phone booths and vending machines. This is where I first met the BIG Texas Cinnamon Roll. We enjoyed several evenings together out on that patio. And, by the end of the 6 weeks of B.M.T. I had grown very fond of the BTCR. However, it was not so fond of me. See, when I arrived at B.M.T I was 2 pounds under weight... in I had to gain 2 pounds by the end of the 6 weeks or I wouldn't be allowed to stay in the Air Force. Well... because of my love for the BTCR... I gained 12 pounds!!! I can't put all of the blame on my love, Big Texas Cinnamon Roll... I mean the food in the chow hall was amazing... but at the end of the 6 weeks I knew what I had to do if I wanted to lose some of my "extra" weight... I had to break-up with my new love... the BTCR!

Today, when I saw this ex-love of mine I wanted to cry. I'm not sure if it's because I miss the Air Force, the wrong time of the month, or because I want to rekindle my relationship with the Big Texas Cinnamon Roll... I think it might have been a combination of all three. I stayed strong. I know better than to go back to someone that made me gain so much weight!!!

I can't find a picture today from when I was in B.M.T. but the above picture is of me after I returned from my trip to the sandbox across the big pond. McChord AFB was having a Combat Dining In. This is when mostly enlisted Air Force members head out to a hangar, form teams, and end up in water and food fights. It was a great time - one I'll always remember with my friend Becca and they guys from the Special Operations Group.

Quote Of The Day

JD brought in Dove Dark Chocolate for the 2nd day in a row.
He is really spoiling me here at work!
My Dove Dark Chocolate quote of the day (or of the piece of candy) is:
"Be mischievous. It feels good."

Ever since I took Calvin to Sea World in the Spring he has had a thing for whales and dolphins. So, today while we were fishing he kept saying he saw a whale. Neither Chris nor I saw it but who are we to say that it doesn't exist! This picture is of Calvin pointing to where he spotted the whale. It is very magical for me to see him, in his pure innocense, believing whole heartedly that there is a whale in the small pond in our backyard.

Calvin Catches His 1st Fish!

After dinner, we thought we'd see if the fish were biting more.
Ended up I got another one and then...
To be fair, Chris did most of the work...
but Chris said it counts as Calvin's because it was on Calvin's fishing pole.
We had a really good time outside fishing in the backyard today.

***I WIN!***

Chris Catches some fish!

Later this afternoon we headed back out to the pond.
Play by play: I caught one. (Score: Christina: 3, Chris 0)
Chris caught one. (Score: 3-1).
Then, we each caught another one.
So the pre-dinner score was: 4-2... Christina's lead!

Calvin's First Fishing Pole

Today, Calvin got his very own fishing pole.
He was soooo proud!
We're still hoping to catch a fish with it today.

Tickle Tickle!

Calvin loves to tickle people.... and apparently he likes to tickle fish now, too! The funny part was just as he tried to tickle the fish it started jumping around. It was hilarious!

What can I say??? I guess I'm just a natural fisher-woman! hahahaha... LOL! Chris, Calvin, and I did a little fishing this afternoon in my backyard pond. Calvin got his own fishing pole today. He really liked it! However, trying to get a 1 year old to sit still was a bit of a pain. We all had a great time, though.... ESPECIALLY ME!!! We were about to call it quits for the afternoon because the fish just weren't biting. It was so hot so we figured we'd try back this evening. Just then... I GOT A BITE!!! I got the FIRST fish of the day! Of course I had to rub it in to Chris!!! Since I got a fish I thought I'd stay out there a little while longer.... and YES I got ANOTHER fish!!! Both were pretty small... but who cares?!? I got 2 fish and they got none!!! I WIN! We are heading back out to the pond this evening so we'll see if they can catch up!

Potty Time...

So... we're trying to potty train Calvin. I can't complain. For a 1 year old (almost 2) he does great. He has maybe 1-2 accidents a day and rarely poops in his big boy underoos. Every wonder why you do your best thinking on the pot? Seriously. Some people read magazines, the newspaper, or books. Others think about their day, life, religion. It's like "Your" time of the day when nobody else will bother you and you can clear your head. I've had to give up this time of mine at home. Now, Calvin likes to follow me (anyone actually) into the bathroom and cheer them on. I'm not even joking! He claps and cheers, saying, "Good Job! Good Job! Big Boy!" Just like I say to him. It's almost fun to go to the bathroom, now. Ever wish you could open a door and there'd be a crowd of people cheering for you - giving you every compliment??? Well... that's what it's like for me now when I go to the bathroom!

4th Of July!!!

I love the 4th of July... especially going to the Dieterich parade!!! The parade always incorporates patriotism and support for the troops. It always makes me feel so proud for what I've done for our country and what friends are still doing now for us to be free. God Bless the U.S.A.!!!

3rd of July at Mom's

We went to mom and Clay's on July 3rd for a great 4th of July party! Talk about a lot of food... you name it... they had it. Calvin mostly enjoyed Grammy Bock Bock taking him to see the chickens and bunnies. He calls her Grammy Bock Bock because she has chickens... she doesn't like the name so much, so I encourage him to call her it!!! :-) Anyway, we had a great time!

Boating boys...

My boys... Chris and Calvin on the boat.

Calvin loved boating at Lake Sara on Sunday.

We all had a really good time.

I cut my hair!!!

I got brave and did something I'd been wanting to do for over a year.... I cut my hair! Huge drastic change from my long boring hair!!! Thank-you to everyone that gave me the confidence to do this! Big thank-you to my long time friend, Bridgette at the French Quarter for doing a fabulous job perfecting my cut. And, thank-you to everyone who has given me tons of compliments on my new 'do. For the record, Rebekah Gosnell deserves a lot of credit for the look - without her precut coaching I'm not sure I would have ended up with it looking so perfect. I'm not sure what I'll do without Rebekah's beauty and hair guidance after I leave Patterson. She truly has a calling to do hair... if she'd just go back to school already and get her degree in cosmotology!!!

Mom..... Mom..... Mom.....

Why do 2 year olds believe in saying your name repeatedly??? Seriously... this is how an average conversation goes on the drive to the babysitters is in the mornings...

Calvin: Mom

Mom: What, sweetie?

*10 second pause*

Calvin: Mom?

Mom: Yes, Calvin?

Calvin: Tree.

*10 second pause*

Calvin: Mom?

Mom: What??

Calvin even louder: Mom?

Mom getting irritated: What?

After about 5 minutes of this it sounds more like this:

Calvin: Mom?

Mom: Calvin spit it out already before I leave you on the side of the road!!! You're driving me crazy!

I love him but man does that get annoying... every single morning!
